Kansas Turnpike Authority

Last month I ventured down to Wichita, Kansas to present at a supervisors meeting for the Kansas Turnpike Authority. I had a great time sharing my magic with them, and talking to them about what it means to share their magic with the people they lead. I met some very fun, wonderful, and respectable individuals, and had a great time chatting with people before and after the presentation.

When I asked for examples of the pickpocket mentality, one gentleman told me about a time his sister received car service. She told him something wasn’t right, and when he checked the car he saw they hadn’t tightened everything down properly. He took the car back to the station and notified the manager, just to let him know that this kind of mistake can ruin a car. The manager found the man responsible, and humiliated him by publicly chewing and cussing him out. We agreed the healthy and more effective response would have been to take the man aside, and quietly and calmly explain to him the seriousness of his mistake. This was a great everyday, practical example of how the pickpocket mentality pokes it’s ugly head. For more examples of the pickpocket mentality, check out my ebook here.

Proposal at the Improv

Something very special and very magical happened a few weeks ago at the Improv. One Wednesday every month I perform my Mind Madness show at the KC Improv. My good magician friend Todd Lamanske graciously opens for me on most of these nights – it is great to kick the night off with his hilarious magic and comedy. This past month, a friend of Todd’s made plans with him to propose to his girlfriend on stage. So, after my act, Todd came back on stage, brought the couple on stage to “help with a trick,” and wa-la — an engagement ring appeared. You could say she was surprised – the picture says it all. Oh…and she said yes!

Discover Your M.A.G.I.C. – “G” stands for Gifts

We are on month three of “revealing” the 5 different types of magic that people possess. These types of magic are found in the word M.A.G.I.C. This takes us to the “G” in MAGIC, which stands for: gifts.

This is probably the easiest type of magic to identify. Magical gifts are not about the gifts you give, but the gifts you possess. What are your natural abilities, strengths, skills or God-given talents? Does your strength fall in the area of the arts, such as music, painting, or drama? Is it an athletic ability? Is it the gift of hospitality? Were you a born leader? Do you have a high IQ? Are you creative? Maybe you are the person on your team who always brings the best ideas to a project. The “gifts” area of magic means you were born with the potential to flourish in a certain area and in a special way.

The Magic of Northcare Hospice

I recently had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Carolyn Long (KCTV5) for Northcare Hospice’s “Magical Evening” at the KC Improv. The event raised money for uninsured or underinsured hospice patients. Carolyn, a real sweetheart, was the emcee, and I performed my “Mind Madness” show. I also had the opportunity to share with the crowd the magical things I learned about Northcare Hospice when I visited their facility. If you have read my ebook, you have read about Lowell, the chaplain who plays his Native American flute for the patients. Northcare Hospice is where Lowell is the chaplain, so as a demonstration of how unique and wonderful Northcare is, Lowell agreed to grace our ears with his music. It was great to finally hear him with my own ears! I wish I could bring him across the country with me as I give my keynotes – he was a great addition to the evening and a wonderful example of someone who shares his magic in a unique way. Way to go Lowell!

Over the next few months I am “revealing” the 5 different types of magic that people possess. These types of magic are found in the word M.A.G.I.C. This is month #2 and we are on the “A” in MAGIC, which stands for: acts.

This category of magic is about acts of kindness, acts of generosity, and acts that come from the heart. Your giving is altruistic (giving or serving without expecting anything in return). Are you the gift basket person? Are you the person who can make people feel special with the small things? Have you developed a certain act of kindness that you have become known for over time?

You really enjoy doing these acts and they are not a burden to you. It comes completely natural and you enjoy giving more than you do receiving. Maybe you give money to people in need. You like to do these things in secret without receiving any credit. Discover Your M.A.G.I.C. — “M” stands for Memorable

Over the next few months I will be “revealing” the 5 different types of magic that people possess. These types of magic are found in the word M.A.G.I.C. This month we are starting with the “M” in magic, which stands for memorable.

“I remember you. You’re the one who _______.” If you can fill in this blank because of what other people say to you, then your magic may fall under this category. Is there a special reason people remember you? How do you stand out from others? Are you funny? Are you a great storyteller? Are you both? Do you have a great personality? Do you like to serve people? Do you have a killer smile or an uncanny ability for remembering names? Maybe you have a quirk, an oddity or a disability. Perhaps you have a scar, whether inside or out, with an inspiring story behind it.

This is the staple magic category of the other four types of magic, because the other four types have the ability to make you memorable. Any positive trait people remember you for might be your magic. Variety Show 2012
